Dance for the skies

Tanusree Shankar is giving a performance tomorrow.

RHYTHM DIVINE Tanusree Shankar is all set to captivate.

Hotel Taj Krishna is hosting a dance performance by Tanusree Shankar on Saturday, October 8. An acclaimed danseuse, Tanusree is the wife of the late Ananda Shankar.

Her 15-member troupe will be performing a new composition, Akash. The choreography is by Tanusree and the music by Ananda. Tanusree is known for her fusion of various traditional dance forms, marked by fluidity and grace in movement. The sky is a symbol of oneness, - suggesting the old Vedic truth - vasudaiva kutumbakam. The ballet begins with a dance representing the grandeur of the sky. The second sequence depicts the power and might of the sky in the form of storm, thunder and lightning. The night sky evokes the romance between darkness and the twinkling stars. Here, the female dancers represent the stars and the male dancers, the mystery of darkness.

Pratiksha or yearning signifies the longing for one's beloved. The music of this choreographic presentation is by Taufiq Qureshi. Arpan, the finale is homage to Ananda Shankar. It shows a resolve to carry on his mission of breaking barriers through music and dance.
