DECEMBER 6: The short that bagged the first prize.

In the Short Film Competition conducted by Global Television, Chennai, and Nizhal, a magazine for Contemporary Cinema, Kaviya Pugazhendhi's `December 6' was awarded the first prize. The function was held at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, recently. The film dealt with the aftermath of the attack on the Babri Masjid on December 6.

Sushma Krishnamurthy's `Thalir Ondru Saruganadhu,' on female infanticide, in Salem District in Tamil Nadu in particular, was the prize-winning entry in the Documentary section. Lyricist Arivumathi was felicitated for his short film `Neelam,' on Tsunami. All the three films were screened at the function. Director Bharatiraaja presented the awards in the presence of Former Minister K. Rajaram, director Thankar Bachchan, producer `Kalaipuli' Dhanu, Editor `Jayam' Mohan and Madura Balan.
