Tyagaraja Aradhana

Bharat Kalachar will observe Tyagaraja aradhana on February 5, at Sri. YGP auditorium, T. Nagar. The event begins with a saxophone recital by Lavanya and Subbulakshmi, at 9 a.m. Six musicians — Jayalakshmi Santhanam, A. Sundaresan and Sirkazhi Jayaraman (vocal), C. Lakshminarayanan (violin), Madurai T. Srinivasan (mridangam) and K. Nagaraja Rao (ghatam) — will be honoured with the Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer Veteran Award. Group singing of Pancharatna kritis will begin at 10 a.m. N. Murali, Joint Managing Director, The Hindu, and president, Music Academy, will preside and give away the awards, and prizes to the winners of the Tyagaraja kriti competition conducted for students of PSBB Schools.

Special postal cover

Papanasam Sivan Rasikar Sangam (Ph: 55295949) has organised a celebration for the release of a special postal cover, in commemoration of the 115th birth anniversary of Papanasam Sivan, on February 3 (today), at 6 p.m., at Narada Gana Sabha, TTK Road. Vatsala Raghu, chief postmaster general, Tamil Nadu, will release the postal cover and Kavignar Valee will receive it. A vocal concert by S. Sowmya will follow the felicitations by Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and R. Krishnaswamy.
