Creative: Dance performance by the students of Shrishti Dance School, Tiruchi.
The students of the Shrishti School of Bharatanatyam, Tiruchi, presented ‘Nrityanjali,’ group dance performance under the auspices of the Rasika Ranjana Sabha in the city recently.
Led by guru Charulatha Jayaraman on the nattuvangam, the young performers captivated the audience through their innovative presentation. The dancers commenced the recital with pushpanjali followed by ‘Vetri Ettu Dhikkum Ettu Kottu Murase’ by Mahakavi Subramania Bharati. This piece in Ragamalika was an apt choice for a programme on Gandhi Jayanthi.
The concepts of freedom, uplift of women and eradicating untouchability was brought out beautifully through dance. This kind of creative choreography kept the audience spell bound for two hours.
Later the rasikas were entertained by the performance of some budding young artistes. The jatiswaram (Saraswathy) and thalam Rupakam was very well received.
Social theme
The senior dancers again adorned the stage with a presentation ‘kalpakavruksha,’ another social theme, on nature in ragamalika set to thalamalika, is a composition of Venkatasubramanian. Dasavataram, a composition of Mayavaram T.Viswanathan was the highlight of the evening. Twenty one performers led the audience through the 10 avatars of Vishnu, depicting four avatars in detail. The gripping performance came to a fitting finale with a thillana in Hindolam, a composition of K.N.Dandayuthapani Pillai.
V. Venugopal on the vocals captured the hearts of everyone through his soul-stirring voice. Mayavaram T.Viswanathan gave able support on the mridangam while Natraj played the flute.
