  • Common Entrance Test to be held on May 13, 14

Chennai, March 28 (PTI): The Common Entrance Test for professional courses in Tamil Nadu for the coming academic year would be held on May 13 and 14.

The CET would be applicable to all students, including State Board, and its pattern would be similar to that of the previous years, an official release said here today.

"With these dates for CET, the final schedule for counselling and commencement of classes will be absolutely on schedule without any delay," the release said.

The Government's announcement comes a day after the Supreme Court fixed April 13 for hearing of its petition challenging a February 27 Madras High Court order striking down a state act abolishing CET only for state board students while making it compulsory for CBSE and other streams.

The High Court had quashed the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Admission in Professional Courses Act, 2006, saying that the "the state legislature has no legal competence to pass a law on a subject occupied by a central act".

It had directed the Government to hold the CET for all students, including the state board students.

The State Government, which had also sought a stay of the High Court judgment, however, made it clear that the system to be followed eventually in admissions to professional courses "will be determined on the basis of the decision of the Supreme Court (on its petition)".
