  • Rahul sticks to remarks on Babri Masjid

Dilari (UP), March. 20 (PTI): Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Babri Masjid demolition today invited flak from across the political spectrum, including the BJP which said it was an insult to Hindu sentiments, but the unfazed young MP said the Gandhi family does not need to prove its credibility.

Gandhi also said his criticism of the alliance with BSP in 1996 as a sell-out did not mean that he was against all tie-ups but ruled out coming together with the BSP.

"Opponents may say whatever they want. I have said only what my father had said," he told reporters here in this village in Moradabad district as his three-day roadshow ahead of Assembly elections came to an end.

Asked about questions being raised about the credibility of the Gandhi family, he said, "There is enough credibility in my family. No one can doubt our credibility."

Gandhi had yesterday during the roadshow said Babri Masjid would not have been demolished had the Gandhi family been active in politics at that time.

On possible alliances with RLD and Jan Morcha for the UP Assembly polls, he said discussions were on. But he ruled out any tie-up with BSP, saying, "I don't see that happening."

"There was a sell-out in 1996. That doesn't mean all alliances are sell-outs. Alliances mean a lot of details and numbers," Gandhi said.
