Initiative on for third alternative: Yechuri
Agartala, (PTI): The CPI(M) on Sunday said it was looking for a third alternative against the "liberal economic policies" of the UPA government as well as communalism.
"We are looking for a third alternative to the present political power structure and the programmes and policies of the Front would be formulated against liberal economic policy and communalism," Yechuri told reporters here.
Criticising the UPA government for not adhering to the Common Minimum Programme, Yechuri said it did not increase the budgetary allocation for education, health and agriculture sectors. "As a result, the common people were not benefitted," he said.
On the Indo-US nuclear deal, Yechuri said the government was discussing the deal with IAEA, but they should not sign any agreement before discussing the matter with the Left parties.
"Terrorism is posing a threat to the peace and development of the country and we are interested to take programmes against it, but the Congress party is going to forge an electoral alliance with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) which is an overground mask of insurgents in Tripura," he said.
He said Tripura, West Bengal and Kerala have set a unique example against communalism.
