  • Considerable progress in talks with IAEA: Kakodkar

Mumbai (PTI): There has been considerable progress in India's talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for India-specific safeguards agreement and it is in country's interest that Indo-US civil nuclear deal goes through, Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar said on Thursday.

"We have made considerable progress in our talks with IAEA and will be making further consultations in the matter", Kakodkar told reporters when asked about preparation of the draft of India-specific safeguards at the IAEA.

Kakodkar, however, declined to comment on whether India and IAEA have finalised the draft text of India-specific safeguards.

Asked whether the Indo-US nuclear deal was progressing well, he said "it is in our interest that the deal goes through".

Kakodkar's remarks came after an MoU signing between the Department of Atomic Energy and the University Institute of Chemical Technlogy here this afternoon.
