  • Pak initiates steps to implement CWC

Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan on Thursday inaugurated a mechanism for the automated collection of import and export data from chemical industries as part of efforts to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan inaugurated the Wide Area Network (WAN) of the CWC's implementation mechanism at the foreign ministry.

The WAN will automate the collection of import and export data from Pakistan's chemical industries and the preparation of declarations for submission to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, said an official statement.

The statement said Pakistan is committed to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and became a party to the CWC in October 1997.
