  • INS threatens to take 'adverse view' of IPL match coverage

New Delhi (PTI): The opposition to the stringent media accreditation terms of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gathered momentum with the Indian Newspaper Society, a representative body of newspaper publishers, threatening to take an "adverse view" on the coverage of twenty20 matches beginning later this month.

The INS has noted with disappointment that the "revised" media accreditation terms put out by the IPL do not constitute a significant improvement over what was put out earlier and have in fact failed to address the issues of intellectual property rights of the media as well as press freedom, INS President Bahubali Shah said in a release.

The INS fully supports the views expressed by the Editor's Guild in their latest communication to IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and hopes that a serious attempt will be made by them to remove offending terms for media accreditation, he said.

Shah added that in the absence of remedial action by the Indian Premier League, INS members will be forced to take an adverse view on the question of coverage of IPL Matches.
