  • Left not interested in Kalam's voice of wisdom: CPI

New Delhi (PTI): The Left on Sunday said its opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal remains unchanged despite former President A P J Abdul Kalam backing the pact and Prime Minister's calls to the Left parties to listen to "voices of wisdom."

"We have great respect for Kalam and his wisdom. Just as he has his words of wisdom, there are others whose wisdom says we should not go ahead with the deal," CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said responding to the Prime Minister drawing attention of the Left, among others, to Kalam's "voice of wisdom."

"We can discuss it as many times as they want but our stand will not change," Bardhan said at the end of his party's two-day national executive meeting.

The next meeting of the UPA-Left Coordination committee is meeting here on May 28 to find away out to push the stalled nuke deal forward.

Bardhan said the government seemed to be "stepping up its efforts using many means" to move forward on it.
