SIMI activist detained, more sketches released
Jaipur (PTI): The Rajasthan Police on Saturday detained a SIMI activist and released sketches of three more persons suspected to be involved in Tuesday's serial bomb blasts in the Pink City even as it pursued several leads to crack the case.
The state police also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh to anyone providing clues about perpetrators of the blasts that tore through the city leaving 64 dead and over 200 injured.
The Special Operation Group of the state police detained a person at Sawaimadhopur for questioning in connection with the bombings, a top police officer said.
Additional Director-General of Police (Crime) A K Jain said he was identied as Sajjid.
The ADGP said the SIMI activist, who was picked up from Udai village, bore no resemblance with any of the sketches released by the state police.
He said he was being brought from Swamimadhopur to the state capital for further interrogation.
DGP (Special Operation Group) Laxman Meena said sketches of three more persons, prepared on the basis of information provided by eye-witnesses, were released today.
In all, seven sketches had been released so far and more were expected, he said.
On Friday night, the Uttar Pradesh Police detained a number of persons, including the landlord of one Afzal Khan, whose identity card was found in a car after the blasts in Jaipur.
On the basis of the address mentioned in the I-card, the Anti-terrorist Squad of the state police picked up a person from his Hussainganj residence where Khan was stated to be staying.
He told his interrogators that Khan had left his place some one-and-a-half years ago and had never come back since then, the UP Police said.
Meanwhile, as Bangladeshis in Rajasthan came under scanner after the ghastly incident, lawyers here said the Raje government should take steps to stop purchase of houses and plots by them posing as West Bengal residents.
"All such illegal transactions should be immediately stopped and investigated, otherwise it will create a serious security risk for the state in coming days," Jaipur District Bar Association said.
The BJP government has already said illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Rajasthan would be identified within 30 days and could be deported.
