Hotel catches fire, guests and staffers rescued
Bhopal (PTI): Fire broke out at a hotel here on Sunday leaving its guests and staffers marooned in the thick smoke, police said.
Amer Palace hotel in MP Nagar area caught fire at around 1.30 pm. The fire broke out from the kitchen of the hotel, which was soon controlled. However, the thick smoke spread in the hotel caused panic to its 55 guests and staffers, Additional SP, Mahendra Singh Sikarwar told PTI.
The cause of the fire was not yet known, he said, adding people were evacuated from the hotel through staircase as smoke suffocated and prevented them from coming out of the hotel comfortably.
Nobody was injured in the incident, he said.
Five fire brigades and many water tankers were pressed into service to douse the flame, police said.
Senior police and fire-brigade personnel reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation, he said.
The exact cause of the fire will be known after the probe to be conducted by the personnel of Industrial Saftey department, he added.
