Hyderabad (PTI): An instructor of a flying club and a trainee pilot were killed and another person injured when a trainer aircraft crashed in a residential locality here on Monday soon after take off.

Neeraj Jain, an assistant flight instructor, and P Srinivas, the trainee pilot, of Andhra Pradesh Flying Club were killed when their single engine Cessna-152 trainer aircraft crashed in Sanathnagar locality in the heart of the city soon after taking off from the Begumpet airport at 11 am, police said.

While Jain (26) is a resident of Delhi, Srinivas (22) is from Hyderabad.

Eye witnesses said the aircraft came down and hit an electric pole after which it fell on the ground. The rear portion of the aircraft, however, got stuck in a nearby building.

According to officials, the aircraft developed technical snag and hit a high-tension powerline in the process of emergency landing, leading to the mishap.

A local resident, standing at a nearby Ganesh puja pandal, said Jain, who was alive even after the crash, asked to be pulled out of the wreckage.

The local residents said they could not pull him out and he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

The body of the trainee pilot was charred beyond recognition.
