  • BJP can make India biggest power of 21st century: Advani

Thiruvananthapuram(PTI): Mounting a fierce attack on the Congress and the Left, BJP prime ministerial candidate L K Advani on Sunday night said the National Democratic Alliance could make India the "biggest power of the 21st century".

"The first half of the 20th century was dominated by Britain and the second by USA and Russia. The 21st century could be that of India, with a strong and determined government in power, which the BJP-led NDA alone could provide," Mr. Advani said at a poll rally here.

If NDA was voted to power, it would take strong steps to bring back "huge sums", stashed away by vested interests in foreign banks like those in Switzerland, he said.

Mr. Advani said that when the BJP released its manifesto, some friends and well wishers had wondered how the party was going to get the resources to meet the commitments. The answer was to bring back the money deposited in foreign banks by Indians, which would suffice to meet these projects.

Though a resolution on these lines was adopted in the recent G-20 meet, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not show the determination to seek the details on this, he said.
