Indian fans feel let down by cricket team's loss

Port of Spain, March. 24 (PTI): Indian fans, who had flown in from the US and other Caribbean islands for India-Sri Lanka match in the cricket World Cup, were absolutely disgusted with their team's performance which almost confirmed their exit from the mega event.

"We were pathetic...useless. I am so ashamed," said Manish, a middle-aged cricket fan, who had flown in from New Jersey.

There was disappointment on the failure of seasoned batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was bowled by Dilhara Fernando for duck yesterday.

Tendulkar managed seven runs in India's opener against Bangladesh, which was lost by five wickets, and his only significant knock -- an unbeaten 57 -- came against Bermuda, arguably the weakest team in the competition.

"We were disappointed that Sachin did not bat well," said Rasheed, a Trinidad and Tobago citizen who turned up along with his wife Rose, in Indian colours.

"I wanted to see Sachin bat," he added.

Isaac, who flew in from Washington DC for yesterday's match, echoed Rasheed's sentiments.

"This was my one chance to see a World Cup and Tendulkar was extremely disappointing," he said. "I am supremely disappointed."

Manish had a word of caution for the Indian team.

"Back in India, they are going to get a good beating," he said, through clenched jaw.
