Manila, Philippines, Aug. 2 (AP): The United States and North Korea pledged to honor their obligations under a six-nation agreement on North Korean denuclearization, an official said Thursday.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun met briefly Wednesday night in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum, Asia's largest security conference, North Korean diplomat Jong Song Il said.

``The two sides shared the understanding to make joint efforts to move forward the six-party talks by implementing their obligations,'' Jong said. ``They reaffirmed their commitment to make joint efforts'' for eventual denuclearization, he said.

Jong said they did not discuss details in the 10-minute meeting.

U.S. nuclear negotiator Christopher Hill said he also met with the North Korean foreign minister.

``My comments were that we need to work hard to get this done and he agreed,'' Hill said. ``I think things are falling into place, we have a lot of things to get done.''
