Over 11,000 pirated Bollywood DVDs seized

Melbourne, Sept. 24 (PTI): Over 11,000 pirated Bollywood movie DVDs were seized from two commercial consignments, Australian Customs department said.

The counterfeits were seized from two shipments from Singapore and would be destroyed this week, Customs spokesman John Potter said in Sydney.

"These counterfeits represent a deliberate attempt to rip off the legitimate DVD rights holder," Potter was qouted as saying in 'The Age' today.

"Illegitimate importers who attempt to flout Australian law will forfeit their goods and lose their money," he added.

The shipments also contained thousands of copies of covers for the DVDs.

The customs official, citing a recent OECD report on counterfeiting and piracy, said the international trade in counterfeit and pirated products could have been worth up to USD 200 billion in 2005.
