Telecom CEOs meet in Kathmandu today

Kathmandu, (PTI): Over a hundred Chief Executive Officers from SAARC countries are assembling here to find out new ways to provide telecommunication access to millions of people residing in rural and semi-urban areas.

The sixth annual CEOs conference, beginning from Thursday, will be attended by telecom service-providers and regulators from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives.

The three-day conference is expected to facilitate exchange of views and devise strategies for taking telecom beyond cities, a press release said Wednesday.

"With the emergence of Internet, telecom is becoming a meta resource for economic development of developing nations," Chairman of Cybermedia, Pradeep Gupta, said.

CMD of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Kulbeer Goyal, will lead the Indian delegation in this conference.

Host Nepal will be headed by Shankar Prasad Koirala, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications.
