Jamir, Kamat playing 'constitutional fraud': BJP

Panaji (PTI): The main Opposition BJP on Friday alleged that Goa Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Digamber Kamat were playing a "Constitutional fraud" by reportedly getting an ordinance promulgated to increase contingency fund of the state and avoiding an Assembly vote.

"I have reliably learnt that the state government has increased the contingency fund to Rs 600 crores from Rs 300 crores as they failed to pass supplementary demands on the floor of the House. This is a constitutional fraud," leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar told reporters here.

He said the assembly adjournment and subsequent proroguity have resulted in supplementary demands to the tune of Rs 248 crores not being passed in the House.

"Why do they require Rs 600 crores when the demands were only for Rs 248 crores?," Parrikar questioned.

The BJP leader suspected that such a huge money allocation would result in "looting" of government treasury.

With Goa government plunging into a crisis for the third consecutive day, the BJP on Friday reiterated its demand for sacking Chief Minister Digamber Kamat.

The opposition party has also reiterated its demand for recall of Governor Jamir alleging his role in proroguiting the House on Thursday gave a breather to Kamat-led government.

"Every time, the Governor acts unconstitutionally to save the government. He has played a major role in letting a minority government survive in Goa," Parrikar said.
