Its 8.6 degrees Celsius in Mumbai

Mumbai (PTI): The metropolis, which has been reeling under unusual cold weather for the last ten days, remained that way with the minimum temperature being recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Mumbaikars will get respite from the cold wave only when weather conditions improve in northern India, the local weather bureau said.

Mumbaikars who are experiencing such chilly weather after four decades were seen covering themselves with jerseys, jackets and shawls.

The city recorded its lowest temperature yesterday this winter at 8.5 degrees Celsius at the suburban Santacruz station of the meteorological department. The Colaba station recorded a minimum of 11.8 degrees Celsius.

The cold wave in the city has been attributed to westerly disturbances and low temperatures that are being witnessed across north India.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in the city was 7.4 degrees Celsius on January 27, 1962.

The weather office added the chilly weather continued in many parts of Maharashtra including Nasik, Pune, Aurangabad and Mahabaleshwar.
