Climate document may take into account civil society report
New Delhi (PTI): Government on Wednesday said the scientific community will examine a report on climate change by an international civil society coalition after which its recommendations could be taken for preparing the national document to deal with the issue of global warming.
"The scientific community will examine the civil society report," Minister of State for Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena told the Lok Sabha.
The International Civil Society Coalition on Climate Change report makes an assessment of the likely impact of climate change on weather, health, agriculture and related sectors and also suggests adaptation measures, he said.
While the report acknowledges the phenomenon of global warming, it does not treat climate change as such a serious threat as is being projected, Meena said.
The Minister said the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report is based on assessment of scientific peer-reviewed literature published worldwide on aspects of climate change.
The PM's Council on Climate Change, established in June last year, is preparing a national document on climate change which will be ready in the next few months, Meena said.
