Blood stains can be traced even after years on washed clothes

New Delhi (PTI): Finding blood stains on clothes washed with normal detergents was possible even after several years, says forensic experts.

"In blood soaked cloth washed only with water, traces of blood stains can be detected even after ages. But if it is washed with detergent and washed well, there will be a little difficulty to trace the same," says a senior official from Directorate of Forensic Sciences.

It all depends on how the cloth has been stored after it was washed, the official said.

Dr Alexander Khakha, head of the department of forensic sciences, Safdarjung hospital said "if it is washed and exposed to Ultra Violent light for a long time, it will be difficult to trace the blood stains.

"Washing with water makes no difference but with detergent it will not be difficult. We just have to trace the blood cells out of it," he said.

"It all depends on how the exhibit was stored. Blood stain can be traced even after years together and we can also say if it is that of a girl or a boy," Dr R Trivedi, Forensic Sciences Laboratory (Kolkata), said.
