Dalits to meet in New York to discuss their plight
New Delhi (PTI): An international meet to discuss the plight of Dalits will be held in New York next week where issues like educational empowerment and social justice for the suppressed communities will top the agenda.
The three-day conference will highlight the problems faced by marginalised communities and seek practical solutions, Union Minister and Chairman of Dalit and Minority International Forum Ram Vilas Paswan said at a press conference here on Saturday.
Paswan, who is leading a big delegation of leaders belonging to Scheduled Castes and minority communities, including some MPs, said the meet is being hosted by the American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin.
The conference starting on July four, is likely to be attended by around 2,000 delegates from across the globe, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President said.
The delegates would be from India, USA, UK, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Germany, Dubai, Phillippines, New Zealand, South Africa, Nepal, Malaysia, the Middle East and other parts of the world, he said.
He said social activists, academics, community leaders, politicians and professionals would present their views on social justice.
Paswan said the conference would focus on Indian diaspora with special reference to discrimination on the basis of caste, gender and religion.
