Farmers to hold countrywide demonstration on October 22
Hyderabad (PTI): An alliance of about 50 farmers' associations on Friday said they will hold countrywide demonstrations to demand implementation of remunerative prices for farm products as recommended by the National Commission on Farmers (NCF).
The farmers will demonstrate on October 22 before Parliament and also State and district headquarters, National Alliance of Farmers Associations (NAFA) Patron and Adviser T Haque said in Hyderabad.
"The farmers have given enough time to the Union Government to correct its anti-farmer policies. They are now victims of government's wrong policies. It is time for the government to do something sincerely in the interest of the country," said Haque, also former Chairman of Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP).
Besides seeking implementation of NCF's suggestions, the NAFA has put forward other demands. These include autonomous status to CACP, interest-free loans to farmers, supplying agri inputs at reasonable prices and introducing farmer-friendly agricultural insurance schemes.
