Chandrayaan mission will help country economically: Kalam
Hyderabad (PTI): The Chandrayaan mission, scheduled to be launched on Wednesday, will help India economically, former President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said on Monday.
Dr Kalam was in Hyderabad to address the National Consultation on Technology Bank organized at National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD). Reacting to a question on the Chandryaan Mission, he said that the Chandrayaan will do good work. "I Wish them success," he added.
The spacecraft will orbit the moon, survey the surface of the moon with high resolution equipment to produce a complete map of its chemical characteristics and its three dimensional topography.
The goals of the mission will not only be confined to ISRO's capapbilities but to help resolve long standing questions about the Moon's history. India, so far, had not sent a satellite beyond earth's orbit and this will be the first mission to the Moon.
