American woman allegedly molested on ISKCON temple premises

Mumbai (PTI): A 24-year-old American woman was allegedly molested at an ISKCON temple guest house in north west Mumbai, police said on Wednesday. The US national has filed a complaint with the Juhu police station stating that on January 31 an unidentified "Indian" forcibly entered her room at the guest house when she was alone and molested her, they said.

"The case registered is of molestation and we have added the additional section of attempt to rape in the complaint since we suspect that it was the motive of the accused," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Niket Kaushik told PTI.

A medical examination of the victim was conducted which showed that she was not raped, a senior officer of Juhu police station said.

The woman had raised an alarm following which other guests in the building and security personnel rushed to her room. However, the person who allegedly molested her managed to escape, she told the police.

No arrests have been made so far, Kaushik said adding further investigations were on.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has a 76-room guest house on its Juhu temple premises where members of the sect and guests are allowed to stay. The US national was travelling alone and had been staying in the building after being referred there by another member.
