Washington (PTI): Barack Obama, who scripted history by becoming the first African-American U.S. President, on Tuesday created another one by inviting a blogger to his maiden press conference since assuming office.

The White House invited Sam Stein of the Huffington Post, the internet newspaper, to the hour-long press conference and allowed him to pose a question to the President.

Stein's question was whether or not Obama supported the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission in order to prosecute Bush administration officials who broke the law during the past eight years.

However, Obama did not admit to having read Senator Patrick Leahy's proposal, but he did reinforce his opposition to torture and his support for the rule of law.

"It sounded like he'd rather not go down that road, but he didn't absolutely rule it out," Huffington Post commented on Obama's answer.

Obama's opening statement lasted nearly eight minutes and the question and answer session lasted another 51 minutes.

President Obama took questions from 13 different reporters, dwelling mainly on the recession-hit U.S. economy and his $800 billion stimulus package. He also answered questions on Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
