Awami National party leader survives attempt on life
Islamabad (PTI): Senior Awami National Party leader Bashir Bilour on Wednesday survived an attempt on his life by two suicide attackers who killed three persons and injured five others during the assault in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.
Bilour, a senior minister in the North West Frontier Province government, was touring his constituency when the two suicide bombers emerged from a crowd and tried to attack him. When his guards opened fire at the attackers, one of them lobbed a grenade that killed a passer-by and injured another.
The ANP leader, who escaped unhurt, was bundled into his car by police personnel and driven away from the site of the attack in the congested Namak Mandi area.
The attackers then entered a narrow lane in the area and barged into a house. After an exchange of fire with police, the two attackers detonated their suicide jackets, killing two women from the same family and injuring at least four others.
Both the terrorists were also killed, police officials said.
