Conduct postmortem on tigers in presence of us: NTCA to States

Bhopal (PTI): Alarmed over the death of big cats in the country, National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has asked the States, including Madhya Pradesh, to ensure that henceforth the postmortem of the stripped animal should be carried out in the presence of one of its representatives.

"We have received a circular from the NTCA, recently asking us not to go in for the post-mortem of the tiger in the absence of a NTCA's representative henceforth," State Principal Chief Conservator of Forest H S Pabla told PTI on Monday.

He said that they have been asked to keep the dead tiger in deep freezer till the NTCA representative arrive to be present during the post-mortem.

"This circular has not come for Madhya Pradesh alone.

Other states too are included in it," Pabla said.

NTCA move has come following deaths of many tigers in some parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh.

Seven tigers have died in Madhya Pradesh's Kanha Tiger Reserve since April 2008 and the State forest officials claim that six of them had died in territorial fights among them and one had been electrocuted by the poachers.
