PMO seeks 100-day action plan from ministries for new Govt
New Delhi (PTI): The Prime Minister's Office is believed to have asked ministries to chart out their principal agenda for the first 100 days of the new UPA government, which is set to begin its second innings this week.
Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar is compiling a list of priority and programmes of different ministries, an official said.
A dossier on the key targets set by individual ministries and departments would be ready even before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is sworn in for a new term in office.
Shortly after being elected as leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), Mr. Singh said, "I will ask every Minister to set time-bound targets for implementation of our election promises and the various programmes and policies of each ministry."
Mr. Singh further said there would be a quarterly review of the performance of each ministry.
The Congress in its election manifesto promised that its government would bring a National Food Security and provide 25 kgs of rice or wheat to the poor at Rs 3 per kg per month.
Committed to maintain high growth with low inflation, the party had said that it would strive to restore 9 per cent economic growth. It has also pledged to connect every village with a broadband network within three years.
The Budget for 2009-10, which is expected in July, would lay down the priorities and programmes of the new government to neutralise the impact of the global financial crisis on the Indian economy.
One of the key challenges for the Manmohan Singh government would be to raise resources in the backdrop of slowing economic growth.
Economists have already expressed concern about rising fiscal deficit which could be unsustainable and would reduce the ability of the government to fund welfare programmes.
