Body suspected to be of kidnapped FCI official found
Nalbari (Assam), June 30 (PTI): A body, suspected to be that of FCI official, P C Ram, who was kidnapped by ULFA in April, was today found in Assam's Baksa district along the border with Bhutan.
Nalbari's Superintendent of Police, Dilip Kumar Dey, said that the body was dug up in the remote Anandpur area and brought to the Civil Hospital here.
Ram's maid Junu Murmu identified the body, but police were waiting for this to be confirmed by the kin of Ram, an Executive Director with the Food Corporation of India, and the organisation's head in the northeast. The body is yet to be sent for an autopsy, Dey said.
Ram was kidnapped with his driver Rabiram Basumatary by the ULFA on April 17 in Guwahati's Ulubari area when he was returning home from work in his official vehicle. Basumatary was later released.
Till yesterday, senior army and police officials had said they believed Ram was alive and being held somewhere in the Baksa area by his abductors.
Ram's son, who lives near Ghaziabad, had received a call a day after the kidnapping from the ULFA, which had demanded a ransom of Rs 21 crores for the FCI official's release.
