AI management warns striking union, asks them to resume work
New Delhi, Aug. 14 (PTI): A section of Air India ground staff today went on a flash strike demanding revision of pay scale and other financial benefits but the airline management warned the agitators of "appropriate" action if they did not get back to work immediately.
The Aviation Employees' Guild went on a strike demanding revision in pay scales, house rent allowance and a review of the performance-linked incentives (PLI).
In a strongly-worded statement, an Air India spokesperson said the issues raised by the Guild "have not been raised in any forum earlier" and a majority of the wage issues had already been settled with the Unions.
"We do not expect this from a responsible Union and would therefore urge them to immediately withdraw the strike and resume work," the spokesperson said.
Maintaining that there was "no reason" for the union to resort to strike "specially in the wake of continuous dialogue" with workers, he said "any union resorting to such measures without giving prior notice would be dealt with appropriately".
