Convergence of technologies is hope for the future: Kalam
Chennai, Sept. 1 (PTI): Forecasting that convergence of technologies is the hope for the future, former President A P J Abdul Kalam has said it will help in various fields -- from revolutionising aerospace to ensuring a disease-free habitat.
Interacting with students at AARUSH'07, a national level symposium at SRM University near Chennai here, he said Information Technology and Communication Technology have already converged to become Information Communication Technology (ICT).
"IT combined with bio-technology had led to bio-informatics while nanotechnology is now knocking at our doors," he said adding that it will replace microelectronics and many fields with tremendous application potential in the areas of medicine, electronics and material sciences.
He said that the convergence of ICT, aerospace and nanotechnologies will revolutionise the aerospace industry and electronics, leading to nano computing sciences.
This will help in the building of cost effective, reliable, low weight aerospace systems.
Virtual laboratories would provide equitable access to the entire education system beyond classrooms, Kalam pointed out.
