No concessions for increasing ethanol production
New Delhi (PTI): The government has no proposal to extend concessions to ethanol manufacturers, although there is a growing awareness about benefits of using bio fuels.
"There is no proposal to declare concessions to the producers of ethanol for increasing its production," Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
The five per cent blending of ethanol with petrol has already been made mandatory across the country from October this year, barring Jammu and Kashmir, the north-eastern states and island territories.
The government has also made 10 per cent ethanol blending optional from October 2007 and mandatory from October 2008.
