    Agitated TN MPs storm well

New Delhi (PTI): Agitated members from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday protested against a recommendation to make Hindi the official language along with English in High Courts and the Supreme Court, but Government sought to assuage their feelings saying no such decision has been taken.

After the matter led to a brief adjournment of the Lok Sabha, DMK member A Krishnaswamy said the members from the state, cutting across party lines, were opposing recommendation of the Official Languages Committee of Parliament that Hindi should be made official language in higher courts.

He wanted the Government to drop the move which, he claimed, has also been supported by the Law Commssion of India.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said every Committee of Parliament and every Commission has right to make recommendations, but the decision on them is only taken by the Government.

He said the Government was "quite sensitive to the unity and integrity of the country" on the language issue and it has "not taken any decision".

The plea of Tamil Nadu members was opposed by CPI's Gurudas Dasgupta who said his party disassociated itself from the move.

BJP deputy leader V K Malhotra and Prabhu Nath Singh of the JD-U wanted Hindi in courts.

Earlier, the members from Tamil Nadu took Speaker Somnath Chatterjee by surprise suddenly storming the well close on the heels of BJD-BJP members from Orissa trooping into it for another reason.

This led to adjournment of the House for 20 minutes.
