RLD seeks Bharat Ratna for Chawdhury Charan Singh

Lucknow (PTI): After the BJP and BSP demanded the honour for former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee and Kanshiram respectively, the Rastriya Lok Dal (RLD) on Sunday demanded a Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister Chowdhury Charan Singh.

The demand was made through a resolution passed by the RLD at a party meeting here.

"Charan Singh did a lot of works for the poor and backwards besides devoting his life for the cause of farmers. He deserves the award", party spokesman Anil Dubey told reporters.

The party has also been demanding that December 23, the birth anniversary of Charan Singh, be declared a public holiday.
