NLSIU introduces common entrance test for law schools

New Delhi, (PTI): Aspirants for admission to prestigious law schools in the country will now have to appear for the Common Law Admission Test, being introduced by Bangalore-based National Law School of India University.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), on the lines of CAT that is meant for admission to six IIMs and 111 other MBA schools, will also be used by several other law schools for admitting candidates.

The CLAT will primarily be meant for admission to NLSIU-Bangalore, NALSAR-Hyderabad, NLIU-Bhopal, NUJS-Kolkata, NLU-Jodhpur, HNLU-Raipur and GNLU-Gandhinagar. The test for the 2008-09 session will be held on May 11.

"We are conducting one test for admission to all the seven law schools for the first time, it would make the admission to the university schools more streamlined," said an official of the NLSUI, Bangalore.

Some other law schools like Chanakya National Law University-Patna, Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University-Lucknow and Rajiv Gandhi National University-Patiala will also rely on the CLAT scores for admission.

The first CLAT will be held for Indian as well as foreign nationals seeking admission to law courses, said a public notice issued by the NLSUI.

Earlier, NLSUI used to conduct separate entrance tests for the seven law schools at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Raipur and Gandhinagar.
