Ananth Kumar raises Hogenakal water project issue in LS

New Delhi (PTI): BJP member from Karnataka Ananth Kumar on Monday raised the issue of Hogenakal water project in the Lok Sabha, accusing the Tamil Nadu government of misleading the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal to pursue it and sought a halt on its operation.

Union Minister and DMK member from Tamil Nadu A Raja objected to the issue being raised in Parliament.

Raising the matter during Special Mentions, Kumar said Tamil Nadu could not undertake the project as it was a matter of dispute with Karnataka and the issue was sub-judice before the Supreme Court.

He alleged that the project was "illegal" and that Tamil Nadu government had kept the Cauvery Water Tribunal in the dark on the project.

Kumar demanded that the Centre intervene immediately to stop the project.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi last month inaugurated the project being implemented with the assistance from Japan.
