All Fool's Day 'scoops' see Tendulkar pack up, Deshmukh quit
New Delhi (PTI): All Fools Day saw Sachin Tendulkar "calling it a day", Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh "losing" his job and Shahrukh Khan going in for a role in a Marathi movie.
Two prominent Marathi newspapers hit upon these 'April one' ideas in their reports on Tuesday.
'Loksatta', which also brings out an edition from the capital, attempted to surprise readers with its lead story informing them about the 'coup' against Deshmukh by his bete noire Narayan Rane with blessings from the Congress high command.
Incidentally, Deshmukh's fate as Chief Minister has been 'sealed' many a time by newspapers from Mumbai. If he continues till October he will complete four years in office.
The news about Tendulkar's decision to 'packup' has appeared in 'Sakal', so also Shahrukh's plans to play a guest role in a Marathi movie.
The daily has taken pains to point out to the reader at the end that it was April Fool's Day.
The sting is in the tail in the 'Loksatta' report on Deshmukh where a person suddenly exclaims that the date is April one.
'Sakal' also regaled readers with a story on the remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Sholay' by its original director Ramesh Sippy after the disastrous attempt by Ramgopal Varma last year.
The report spoke of Naseeruddin Shah playing the role of 'Gabbar Singh', Shahrukh and Aamir Khan playing 'Jai' and 'Veeru' respectively, Katrina Kaif turning 'Basanti' while Paresh Rawal in the role of 'Samba'.
