Gandhi was expected to interact with the people when she arrived here last night to assess the National Rural Guarantee Scheme implementation in her Lok Sabha constituency at ground level, but security personnel did not allow anyone near her.

The Special Protection Group and police had a tough time controlling the crowd as she reached Shora gram panchayat in Gangapur to inspect a pond with journalists and villagers breaking the security cordon.

The SPG was placed on "high alert" after the serial blasts rocked Jaipur and "this visit was not for the media", Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said.

Gandhi visited Padhera, Para, Sajhaura, Gaura Rupai, Chilua, Bajpaipur, Rapipur Tappa villages, but the media were told to keep off.

"The party president does not want any media interference while she is interacting with the people of her constituency. She has said that the media should no cover her tour," Singh told
