Steps on to notify 'fair price' for land in Kerala

Thiruvnanthapuram (PTI): The process to notify 'fair prices' for lands in Kerala was fast progressing, in order to curb stamp duty evasion during land sales, Registration and Fisheries Minister S Sharma said here on Tuesday.

He told a press conference here that the process of accepting and rectifying complaints on the draft of the notification on 'fair prices' was on. The notification of the draft on 'fair prices of land was issued on May 5.

The stamp duty also would come down after fixation of fair prices for lands. It would also put an end to the practice of showing 'lower price' for land during registeration, he said.

The government also proposed to bring in a legislation to cancel land registeration carried out using fake documents,he said, adding that draft of this new legislation was ready. The computerisation of regiser offices in Kerala would be completed this year.

The registration department would also come out with a 'citizen's document' next month showing the nature of services available in registration offices. The main objective of this document was to bring in transparency and check corruption in department, he added.

The registeration department collected a revenue of Rs 1872.89 crore in 2007-08, which was nearly double the amount collected during the UDF rule in 2006-07 UDF, he pointed out.
