S M Krishna among four elected unopposed to RS
Bangalore (PTI): Former Maharastra Governor S M Krishna and former Bihar Governor Rama Jais and three others were on Thursday declared elected to Rajya Sabha uncontested from Karnataka.
Returning officer for the election S B Patil said Krishna, Anil Lad (both Congress), former Bihar Governor Rama Jois and Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLE) chairman Prabhakar Kore were elected unopposed.
Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations. The election of two Congress and two BJP nominees without contest came in the wake of an understanding reached between Congress and JD(S).
While JD(S) supported Congress nominee Lad, Congress gave one legislative council seat to the H D Deve Gowda-led outfit. All the seven candidates who had filed nominations for the Council election were also declared elected unanimously.
Returning Officer Sreesha said Home Minister Dr V S Acharya, Shankarappa, Siddaraju, Bharati Shetty (All BJP), M C Nanaiah, Arakalgud Narayanaswamy (both JDS) and former Union Minister M V Rajashekharan were elected unopposed.
