'Photos of Ex-British Judges must be removed from Esplanade'
Mumbai (PTI) Making a strong case for getting rid of the colonial hangover, a former judge has demanded that photographs of former British judges be removed from the halls of Bombay High Court and the Espalande Court.
The former labour Court Judge V P Patil, now a practising Lawyer in the High Court said, "The portrait of Sir John Peter Grant still is displayed in the central Court where Lokmanya Tilak was tried and convicted for sedition."
"Whenever we appear in the court, while bowing to our Judges, we are also bowing before those portraits, which is not desirable," he said.
"These photographs should be sent to the museum or handed over to the British Consulate," he said adding that he had written to the Registrar General of the High Court twice in May this year regarding the issue.
"The matter is under consideration by the High Court," he said.
