My granny asked me to go alone in darkness: Rahul Gandhi

Bhopal (PTI): Youth icon and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday called upon school students to never fear from darkness and learn the habit of asking questions "why and why not" to become successful in life.

Narrating three stories to encourage students of Sanskar Valley School promoted by Bhaskar Group of newspapers, Rahul said "when I was six-years-old I used to fear a lot from darkness but one day my grandmother (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) asked me to go alone in the darkness and after sometime I found that I am no more scared of darkness."

"Therefore, never scared of anything in life," he told the young minds after inaugurating two new hostel buildings here.

The second story Gandhi told them is about a teacher who taught him to develop the habit of asking "why" when he was 15 years old for anything that they come across their way to become inquisitive.

The young Gandhi narrated the third story about his life when he was 20 years old and studying in a college. He said that at that time he got attracted towards boxing, but the coach told him that you won't be able to go for it.

So when he thought that it was not his cup of tea and was almost on the verge of giving up the idea, the same coach called him and said, "why not" and that again made a deep impact in his personality.

Therefore, you must develop the habit of asking "why not" to achieve success in life.

Earlier, Gandhi interacted with the schoolchildren by sitting in their midst and answered their several querries.

Indian Express Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta, who is also a member of the school's board and Union Minister of State for Communications and IT Jyotiraditya Scindia, among others were also present.
