Vohra holds discussions with political parties
Srinagar (PTI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra on Monday held meetings with leaders of major political parties in the state for initiating future course of action in the wake of resignation by the Ghulam Nabi Azad government in the state.
Following the acceptance of resignation of Azad and his council of ministers, the Governor invited the leaders of various political parties in pursuance of the constitutional consultative process, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said here.
Based on his consultations with leaders of various political parties, the Governor is in the process of firming up his assessment of the constitutional situation for initiating the future course of action, he said.
National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah, accompanied by leader of the opposition in the state assembly Abdul Rahim Rather, was the first to meet the Governor.
Omar informed the Governor about his party's position consequent to the Chief Minister's resignation.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti along with Muzaffar Hussain Beig and Abdul Aziz Zargar, were the next to meet the Governor and conveyed to him PDP's position in regard to the developing political situation.
He also met a five-member delegation of Jammu and Kashmir National Panther's Party (JKNPP) led by its president Bhim Singh.
Vohra concluded his consultations by having a discussion with Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, state secretary, CPI(M).
Vohra is expected to take a decision on whether to impose Governor's rule in the state by tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, Azad has been asked to continue in office till alternative arrangements are made.
