Bihar govt. 'not serious' in tackling floods: RJD leader

New Delhi (PTI): Accusing Bihar government of inaction over tackling floods in the state, Union Minister for Rural Development and RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Tuesday claimed that the state government was not "serious" about providing relief to affected people.

"Despite 20 districts being badly affected by floods in Bihar, the state government has failed to take adequate steps to provide relief to people. It has made no estimate of loss of human lives," Singh said while speaking to mediapersons here.

However, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to meet the Prime Ministeron wednesday to discuss the flood situation in the state, according to sources.

The Union minister charged the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U)-BJP combine government in Bihar with not seeking any help from the Centre even though the flood situation in the state has worsened.

"Playing a proactive role, our leader Lalu Prasad Yadav is meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh later in the day to seek his help in providing relief to flood-affected people in Bihar as the state Chief Minister does not seem serious about the situation," the rural development minister said.

Singh added that the Bihar government had no contingency plan in place to tackle the situation.
