LJP accuses BJP of 'capitalising on' Amarnath issue

Pushkar (Rajasthan) (PTI): Training its guns on the BJP over the Amarnath land row, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Friday said the saffron outfit was "desperately" looking for issues which it could capitalise on during upcoming polls.

LJP chief and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan also accused the BJP of trying to divide Jammu and Kashmir into three provinces for "political benefit".

"BJP has become desperate and is looking for an issue to capitalise during polls. The Amarnath land row has come as such a matter for the party," Paswan said, inaugurating a three-day training camp for LJP leaders in this pilgrim town.

Claiming that the BJP is adding fuel to fire in the state for political gains, he said the saffron party has a written proposal to divide Jammu and Kashmir into three parts -- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Criticising former Jammu Kashmir Governor S K Sinha for his role in the land row, Paswan said the controversy started when the government transferred forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for building facilities for pilgrims.

"A Sena officer should not be sent as a governor of any state. A political person always thinks about people and this should be kept in mind while appointing a governor," he said, accusing BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena of adding communal colour to it.

The minister was also critical over the ban imposed on Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), saying the action was not "proper".

"Why ban on SIMI. Just because two of its activists have been arrested and being tried. What about the outfit which killed Mahatma Gandhi," he asked.
