Pappu Yadav threatens hunger strike for Bihar flood victims
New Delhi (PTI): With floods wreaking havoc in north Bihar, jailed RJD MP from Madhepura Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the government failed to arrange relief for the affected people within 48 hours.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, Yadav gave an ultimatum to the government to arrange food, shelter and safety for the flood victims in Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria and Purnea by August 29.
"I will not have any food and water from August 30 if people of these districts do not get full meal and are not evacuated to safer places," he said in the letter.
Yadav demanded special packages for the districts, compensation of Rs five lakh and job to the dependents of each of those who lost their lives and a loan waiver for all affected people, besides declaring of all the five districts as national calamity-hit area.
Yadav charged the Bihar government with not showing interest in the repair of the dam despite the central government's earlier directive.
Yadav is currently lodged in Tihar jail in a murder case.
