Boy killed in Delhi blast cremated

New Delhi (PTI): The mortal remains of 13-year-old Santosh Kumar who died in Saturday's blast at Mehrauli, were consigned to the flames on Sunday with well-wishers mourning the loss of a young life.

The funeral pyre was lit by his brother at a Mehrauli crematorium as his family members, relatives and neighbours bade a tearful adieu.

Santosh, a class sixth student met his fate when he tried to return the 'packet' of the two motorcycle-borne youth on Saturday that exploded killing two and injuring 17 others.

According to his maternal uncle Fantoosh Kumar, Santosh was sent to fetch a crate of eggs when the incident occurred.

"It is a grave tragedy for the family... his was a young death," a neighbour present at the funeral site said.

Earlier, Santosh's father Bachhu Mahto, a casual labourer from Bihar's Lakhisarai district, received his body from the mortuary at the AIIMS Trauma Centre around 1400 hours on Sunday.

"He was such a nice brother and human being," Bambam Kumar, his brother said.

Santosh had six brothers and a sister. His father came to Delhi eight years ago in search of a job in the national capital.

The young boy's grandmother, Kajoma devi kept wailing all through Saturday, as she yearned for her grandson's body.

"Santosh's mother is a heart patient and has not regained consciousness since the incident," she said.

The family lives in a rented house at Islampur, ward number six at Mehrauli.
